Give Back

This part of Melody Jean Designs is continually evolving. There is a heartbreaking amount of inequality and injustice in the world, and both the planet and its people are hurting. At times, the weight of it all can feel overwhelming.

Yet I feel called to help. Even small acts of giving matter and offering support where i can is one of the things that keeps me hopeful.

Here are a few organizations that Melody Jean Designs has been honored to support:

The CHIRLA Organization

The coalition for humane immigrant rights has become a very effective advocate for immigrant rights, organizing, educating and defending immigrants and refugees in the streets, in the courts and in the halls of power. We raised $570 to support this organization through a raffle. The necklace was a black and orange to reflect that of a monarch butterfly,  a symbol of hope and resilience, used in immigrant rights advocacy to promote the message of humanity and safety to those migrating

The Sameer Project
A Palestinian-led initiative providing food, water, milk, diapers, medical aid, and shelter to families in Gaza. We raffled off a necklace and raised $1,135, which we sent directly to The Sameer Project to support children and families in urgent need. Free Palestine.

National Network of Abortion Funds
The National Network of Abortion Funds is a grassroots coalition working to remove the financial, logistical, cultural, and political barriers that prevent people from accessing abortion care. I believe everyone with a uterus has the right to choose and these are fundamental rights. Through raffling uterus-shaped studs and a necklace, we donated a totat of  $550 to Abortion Funds and $490 directly to the National Network of Abortion Funds.

East Oakland Youth Uprising
Youth Uprising’s mission is to build a healthy and thriving community by uplifting the leadership and voices of local youth. They provide access to education, health and wellness resources, civic engagement opportunities, the arts, and pathways that help young people get off the streets and shape safer, more equitable neighborhoods with affordable housing, healthy food, jobs, and education. The impacts of institutional racism are deeply visible in the East Bay, and these young people face immense adversity. Our kids are our future, and they all deserve equal opportunity. Through a necklace raffle, we donated $1,250 to this incredible local organization.

Thank you to everyone who contributed.
